Space Shuttle Crawler

This is the crawler vehicle that delivered the space shuttle to the launch pad. It drives under the mobile launcher and picks up the shuttle. It drives 2 mph when empty and about 1/2 mph when loaded. It drives at 150 gallons per mile. It is huge. NASA built a special track of river rock for the crawler that goes from the assembly building to the pad. The track is 8 feet deep. There are several crawlers. It takes about 8 hours to reach the launch pad.
